What's the Best Season For Selling Your Home?

There are two questions I get asked A LOT. The first one you can probably guess — it's, "How's the market doing?"

I love to answer that question. Another of the most common questions I hear as a local real estate broker is:

“What is the best season to sell my home?”

The truth is, here at the Jersey Shore, there isn’t a single “perfect” season—each has its own advantages that a seller should consider. Instead of focusing your home sale to the "best" season, the key is matching the timing to your home and your goals.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

Spring

🌸 Homes look their best with blooming gardens and longer days.

✅ Buyer demand is high, with many aiming to move before summer.

✅ Competitive offers are more common in this busy season.

⚖️ The only tradeoff: more listings mean more competition.

Summer

☀️ Families prefer to move while school’s out, so buyer traffic is strong.

✅ Longer daylight hours mean more showings.

✅ Relocations often happen mid-year, bringing serious buyers.

⚖️ Some buyers are distracted by vacations and summer plans.

Fall

🍂 Crisp air and colorful landscaping make homes feel warm and inviting.

✅ Inventory drops, so your home may stand out more.

✅ Buyers tend to be serious and motivated before the holidays.

✅ Lower competition can mean better negotiating power for sellers.

⚖️ Holidays and weather can limit casual house-hunting.

Winter

❄️ With fewer listings, motivated buyers focus on what’s available.

✅ Relocations and year-end job changes drive serious interest.

✅ Homes often feel extra cozy and appealing during the season.

✅ Buyers shopping in winter are typically committed, not just browsing.

⚖️ Showings can be trickier with cold weather and holiday schedules.

The “best” season depends on your home, your timeline, and your goals. That’s where my expertise comes in—I’d be happy to share a personalized plan and even provide a complimentary home value analysis.

Susan is an incredibly caring realtor who helped my fiancee and I end up in an incredible home where we can build a life together. We were first time home buyers and Susan was very patient in showing us different homes, explaining advantages and disadvantages of various types of homes and  neighborhoods, and guiding us through this process. More importantly than any knowledge that she had, Susan cared about making sure that we were happy with the decision that we would be making. She checked in with us regularly but was not pushy in any way. Susan gave us time to think through our decisions and imparted wisdom in us regarding this process. She was an incredible help to us and we cannot be more grateful for the time, effort, and compassion that she put into our process.
